Common questions

How is the annual salary calculated from a day rate?

Day rate × working days per week × working weeks per year. The default (5 days, 46 weeks) accounts for typical UK annual leave and bank holidays — adjust either figure to match your own situation.

Why 46 working weeks instead of 52?

52 weeks minus roughly 5.6 weeks of statutory UK annual leave (28 days including bank holidays for a 5-day week) comes to about 46 — a more realistic year than assuming someone works every single week.

Where do the market rate ranges come from?

They reflect typical day rates (or hourly rates, for trades conventionally priced that way — cleaning, gardening, dog walking) quoted across the UK, with an automatic London/South East premium applied where relevant. They're a general guide, not a guarantee for any specific job or location.

Is this the same as what candidates on The Trades Guild earn?

It's a general market guide, not a live average of our own candidates' rates — those vary individually based on experience, certifications and location, which you can see on their profile.
