FAQ

Common questions

What does it cost to post a project?

One price per team size, set by the kind of work: 1 person £53 · 2–5 people £107 · 6–10 people £206 + VAT for the cheapest kind of work (dearer trades cost proportionally more). You choose as many people as you paid for (1, up to 5 or up to 10) — more may reply. The post is on the site for 7 days (14 or 30 days for a little more). More than 10 people? Guild Recruit finds them for you. You see the exact price for your job at the end of the form, before paying. Tradespeople reply free of charge. Jobs in central London (tube Zone 1) cost 30% more, because that work pays more and draws more replies — the price shown at the end of the form already includes it.

What if nobody responds — or only a few?

Your post stays on the site for the 7, 14 or 30 days you chose and keeps reaching new tradespeople as they join. If nobody replies while it is visible (up to 14 days), you can re-post it free or take the full fee as account credit for your next post (used automatically, it does not expire). If some reply (for example 2 when up to 8 could), there is no refund — your post simply stays open so more can reply, and you can already choose from those who did. Need help with a post? Use the Need help? chat.

How many tradespeople can respond?

The more people you need, the more tradespeople can respond — you see the exact number with the price at the end of the form. Once that number has responded, the post closes to new replies; you can reopen it once if none of them is right.

Can I get someone urgently?

Yes — tick Urgent at the end of the form (a small extra fee, shown before you pay). Your job goes live straight after payment, is sent first to tradespeople who are free today or in the next 24 hours and is marked URGENT for them. If nobody replies within 24 hours, the urgent fee comes back to you automatically as account credit.

Are the profiles checked before I can contact anyone?

Every profile is reviewed before it goes live. Tradespeople with the green ✓ Verified badge have sent us their documents (insurance, CSCS, Gas Safe, DBS or qualifications) and we have checked them — they are also sent your job first. Other profiles' details are self-declared.

What can I see about a tradesperson before I choose them?

Their first name, trade, photos of their work, qualifications, hourly rate, rating and the insurance, Gas Safe and DBS status they've declared. Their surname, business name, phone number and email stay private until you've chosen them and they've received your contact details. Profile text can't include phone numbers, websites or company names.

How is this different from hiring permanent staff?

Permanent hiring is for an ongoing role with your business. Posting a project is for a specific job, contract or temporary workforce need — a few days, a few weeks, or an ongoing contract — without a formal employment relationship.

Can I hire a team instead of individuals?

Yes — tradespeople can register as running a team, and these are highlighted when your project needs several people at once.

Can I search directly instead of posting and waiting for applicants?

Yes — both work. Search available workers yourself and request their contact details straight away, or post your project and let interested tradespeople come to you. Many people do both at once.

Do tradespeople rate companies too?

Yes. After a job, tradespeople can say whether you paid on time, whether the job was clear and whether they'd work for you again. A good rating means more and better replies to your next posts.

Is there a subscription or membership fee?

No membership is needed. You pay once per job post, nothing monthly. If you search for staff directly, you pay a one-off fee for each contact you request, or you can choose an optional monthly contact pack.

Can I put my phone number or email in my project description?

No — the description boxes don't accept phone numbers, email addresses, websites, social media names or your surname. Tradespeople can read what you write before you have chosen anyone, so contact details are kept out of it. You don't need them there: once you've chosen a tradesperson, we pass your phone number and email to them ourselves.

Is there a minimum or maximum project size?

No — post anything from a single day's labour to an ongoing multi-month contract needing a large team.

Do I need exact dates, or can the work be flexible?

You can give a fixed start date or mark the work as flexible — useful if you know you need cover for a job but the exact timing depends on when the right person is available.
